The slip transfer technique allows for patterns and graphics to be printed on clay without losing the flexibility of slab built pottery. The process is straightforward. First, images are designed in a graphics program and printed as a black and white laser print or photocopy. The image is then slip transferred from the photocopy onto a slab of low fire clay and then a hand built form is created. Construction methods for functional and sculptural forms are covered. This class is based on Sewing Clay by Lauren Karle produced by Ceramics Arts Daily. To see possible outcomes visit http://www.laurenkarle.com/. Excerpt's demonstrating Lauren's methods are available online.
