The poet, Jerry Williams, grew up in Baker City and graduated from BHS in 1979. His book "Tailings: Poems of an Oregon Gold Miner's Son" recounts days spent at his father's mine on Elk Creek, childhood cancer and other experiences that shaped his life as a poet and writer. He lives in Texas and has published widely in the fields of social philosophy and environmental issues.
