Graffiti as an Art Form / Culture Instructor: Shirlee Severs Date: Thursday June 21st and 28th (2 Classes) Time: 5:30 PM- 8:30 PM Price—$30.00 for members/$45.00 for non-members Location: Downstairs Classroom Supplies: Bring your own markers, colored pencils, acrylic paints or use what’s provided Age Requirements: ages 10 to adult Skill Level Requirements if any: all skill levels Minimum number of students: 2 Max # of Students: 12 Class Description: Hands-on graffiti workshop for all ages. This unique hands-on workshop allows participants to create their own graffiti art project. Learn the history and meaning, and tips and techniques of aerosol art, from fill-ins to masterpieces as you immerse yourself in the graffiti art culture. Cultivating creative thought and a welcoming environment, this experience is designed for all ages and talent levels. Leave this workshop with a greater understanding of this still misunderstood craft and of course, your newly created work. • Students will be introduced to the art of graffiti using video and sample work. • Students will learn some of the graffiti basics, then be able to create their own. • Students will be encouraged to practice their graffiti art at home or at the gallery during open studio time. • Students will be taught where and when to use graffiti. Graffiti workshop II: students can continue their craft in a safe, welcoming and friendly environment. Shirlee Severs— “Before I retired from the Washoe County School District in Reno last summer, I taught gifted students basic engineering and science, the arts (excluding voice and music), and how to problem solve and think creatively.” She is a self-described “Artist, Educator, and Curious Human Being!”
