Eastern Oregon is cattle country and there’s no better way to celebrate the region's ranching heritage than at the annual Durkee Steak Feed. Named Oregon Festivals and Events Association's Best Philanthropic Event in 2014, the Durkee Steak Feed has been happening for over half a century. This annual celebration actually takes place in Baker City at the Quail Ridge Golf Course where more than a thousand hungry fans turn out annually to celebrate Baker County’s ranching heritage and enjoy a great steak dinner in the shadows of the Elkhorn Mountains overlooking Baker City. While the steak gets top billing, locals and those in the know, will tell you that it’s the fresh “cowboy fried” bread that steals the show every year.
